MUSICAL CARES 2023 PARIS SYMPOSIUM
20-21 January 2023, Paris The aim of the network is to bring people together to explore examples of musical care from different disciplinary and cultural perspectives. We invite discussion of a broad range of musical care practices, from private experiences (including informal singing between caregivers and infants or formal music therapy sessions) to public ones (such as group music-making and music in health campaigns), from all over the world. This network of practitioners and researchers working on musical care throughout the life course emphasises international and interdisciplinary collaboration. We include practitioners and researchers from a broad range of disciplines and practices, including but not limited to community music, ethnomusicology, medical humanities, medicine, music anthropology, music in health, music education, music psychology, music sociology, and music therapy. |

A beautiful place to be with fantastic musicians - we played chamber music with Ben Johnson, Susanna Hurrell, Clare Presland and Tom Primrose, a lively English program with the Southrepps Sinfonia and the cello quartet by Schubert - Mr. David Nice from the Arts Desk says "A Schubert String Quintet with these two (B. Baker and J. Bloxham) bracketing three other young players was bound to be something extraordinary. And it was. (...)You need to feel that Schubert goes beyond the human to hover on the brink of the infinite – and we did, given playing once again of supreme culture. (...) Worthy of a standing ovation from the impressively attentive audience? Of course – and when an interpretation plumbs those kind of depths, you just have to let it resonate and take note not to make the mistake of hearing another live performance of Schubert's masterpiece for quite some time."
